'Now we're building a data centre in Norway!' Tine Austvoll Jensen, Country Director for Google Norway, announced in a recent LinkedIn post.
'We have finally announced that we are investing €600 million ($646.4m) in the construction of a new data center in Skien', Austvoll Jensen continued. 'This will bring with it a number of positive ripple effects in the form of value creation and jobs both locally and nationally.'
Google bought about 200 hectares of land in Gromstul area of Skien, southwest of Oslo. The data center will be Google’s first data center in Norway, plans of which were first mentioned in 2022. It was previously said that Google needed 860 megawatts for the new data center facility, but it has now been allocated 240 megawatts. The site is set to go live in 2026.
