Tusass, the state-owned telco from Greenland, announced the establishment of a new, state-of-the-art data center in Greenland's capital Nuuk.
The data center will be built in Qinngorput, on the east side of Nuuk, and will also house other critical communication equipment for telephony and internet. Construction will start as soon as possible with expected delivery by the end of 2026. The total construction budget for the building and technical installations is DKK 155 million.
Tusass is also the owner of a number of subsea cables. Greenland Connect is the name of two cables which connect the autonomous Danish territory with Iceland and Canada. The cable known as Greenland Connect North connects the capital with a number of domestic settlements farther north on Greenland's westcoast.
Securing critical infrastructure
"A modern data center in Nuuk, to house our most critical infrastructure, is a necessity. It is not only about security of supply, but also about the general security of society. This data center is the first investment in our new strategy, and in the coming years we will invest massively in increased security in Greenlandic telecommunications", Tusass' COO Jonas Hasselriis said.
CFO Tusass Line Mika Skov adds: "We at Tusass have a clear goal to support local businesses and invest in society. This project is an important step towards a more secure and reliable future for our country. As Tusass' responsible for the project, I look forward to continuing the work with program manager John Telling, who has been essential in the work leading up to today's signing."
