The renewable energy producer Neoen announces the signing of an electricity purchase contract with the Finnish company Equinix following a call for tenders.
Neoen is igniting the fuse of its year 2022. The company has announced the signing of a power purchase agreement ( PPA) with the Finnish company Equinix, specializing in digital infrastructures. The signed PPA covers at least 30 megawatts (MW, unit of electrical power) wind power.
To complete this agreement, Neoen is teaming up with Prokon to develop the future Björkliden wind farm. Its construction should start in 2023 and its commissioning is scheduled for 2024. "It will have 7 turbines for a total power of at least 35 MW and will be 80% owned by Neoen and 20% by Prokon", specifies the company in its press release. Its total capacity will be at least 35 MW.
10 year contract
Neoen and Prokon will ensure the sale of 85% of the green electricity and guarantees of origin produced by the park. This purchase contract, " partially indexed to market prices ", is the seventh green electricity sale contract signed by Neoen in Finland since 2018, strengthening the company's positions in this country. Together with the group's other wind farms in Finland, Hedet and Mutkalampi, currently under construction, this new park brings Neoen's electricity production capacity in the country to more than 500 MW.
Jerri Loikkanen, Managing Director of Neoen Finland, said he was "very happy to see a large multinational like Equinix choose Neoen to supply carbon-free energy to its five large Finnish data centers".
Same story with Sami Holopainen, Managing Director of Equinix Finland, who said: “ Thanks to Neoen and Prokon, we are taking another important step towards meeting our commitment to be climate neutral at global level here. 2030 and the achievement of our Science-Based Targets”.
