5G is currently rolled out all over the globe with new features for IoT, security and network slicing that will enable new and improved use cases. The greatest change though is the decrease in latency that is exponential in impact. Then the vision for 6G is a 10-fold improvement in performance. The new use cases and device types will create more data traffic and need for compute infrastructure close to the end use. This network edge infrastructure will enable completely new applications and further impact the large-scale central IT infrastructure. The network edge nodes will be of different sizes, designs and they need to be autonomous.
