In 2023, Facebook's two buildings at the data center in Odense will be supplemented by a third building. This will add another 30,000 square meters to the campus.
District heating Odense
Facebook works with local district heating company Fjernvarme Fyn. Both companies work together to turn likes into district heating for the city of Odense. The data center expansion will strenghten the partnership. This year District Heating Fyn began delivering the surplus heat from the data center server halls to the community. The expansion will increase infrastructure and heat recovery capacity, and once the expansion is complete, surplus heat will generate 165,000 kWh per year - enough to heat 7.000 Odense homes, the social network stated.
Facebook climate targets
The Facebook data center in Odense has a LEED Gold certification and the social network committed that, by the end of the year, their global operations will be 100% supported by renewable energy.
